Shillong-based artisanal gin brand Cherrapunji Craft Gin has raised an undisclosed amount in its Pre-Series A funding round, marking a significant milestone for the North East India’s growing craft beverage ecosystem.

The round was led by a group of Japanese investors, signaling international confidence in India’s premium spirits market. The capital infusion will help the brand scale production, strengthen distribution networks, and expand its market presence domestically and globally.

Founded in Meghalaya’s Cherrapunji region, known as one of the wettest places on Earth, the craft gin brand infuses locally-sourced botanicals with a unique distillation process that highlights indigenous flavors. Since its inception, the brand has focused on small-batch production with a deep commitment to quality, sustainability, and cultural heritage.

Speaking on the development, a spokesperson for Cherrapunji Craft Gin said, “This investment is a testament to the global appeal of Indian craft spirits. With backing from our Japanese partners, we are excited to take Cherrapunji’s story and flavor to a wider audience.”

The brand plans to use the funds to enhance product innovation, ramp up marketing efforts, and explore key international markets, particularly in East and Southeast Asia, where demand for premium Indian spirits is rising.

Industry experts view the investment as a positive signal for India’s emerging craft alcohol sector, which has been gaining momentum with urban millennials seeking quality over quantity. According to IWSR data, the premium gin category in India has been growing at a CAGR of over 15%, driven by changing consumer preferences and rising disposable incomes.

This latest funding round positions Cherrapunji Craft Gin among the new wave of Indian artisanal liquor brands attracting cross-border interest, as investors look to tap into niche, high-growth categories within India’s dynamic F&B landscape.
